Western Glassware Continued...

The last night that I came by to work on the redecorating of my brother’s apartment, I brought the cowboy accessories with me. I had pillows and a wall hanging and a couple of old hats that I’d found while I was looking around at garage sales. I still think the best garage sale find I made was the western glassware.

I didn’t need any help that night from my brother or his friends. They played poker while I tried to figure out if I was finished or not. I made the boys some Rusty Nails and served them in my brother’s western glassware.

A rusty nail is the perfect drink for western glassware. The drink even has a manly name. I put ice in the western glassware and then poured Scotch over the top. The crowning glory for this drink is the Drambuie that is floated on top.

I was so pleased when my brother’s apartment was completed. The last thing I purchased was a plaque that was in the shape of the state of Texas. All over the plaque were different types of barbed wire. It was really rustic looking and cool. I put it over the cabinet that the western glassware is stored in.

My brother threw a great party once all of the finishing touches were done to his apartment. He asked me to bartend and I agreed. I brainstormed what kind of drinks I could serve to his friends and our family. I wanted drinks that would look good in the western glassware.

Our father likes a good Old-Fashioned. An Old-Fashioned is as old school as old school gets. This is the king of cocktails. For this drink, I muddle a teaspoon of sugar and two dashes of Bitters together in the western glassware. Then, I add some ice, a splash of soda and two ounces of blended whiskey. I stir the drink and garnish it with a strip of lemon peel and a strip of orange peel.

Our Uncle Lou requested that I make a Bloody Bull. I had never heard of this drink before, but it sounded perfect for the cowboy theme and the western glassware. I found a recipe for this drink in a very old cookbook. I only had to make five of these drinks during the whole party, not many people had the nerve to try it.

I had never made a cocktail that had beef bouillon in it until I made a Bloody Bull. The Bloody Bull has an ounce and a half of vodka, two ounces of tomato juice and two ounces of beef bouillon. I garnished the drink with a squeeze of lemon juice. It really did look great in the western glassware. Uncle Lou was impressed. I don’t think he thought I’d be able to find the recipe.
