Wine Cellar Rack Continued...

You can also use inkjet printer wine bottle labels if you wish to be able to print out tags for your wine collection. But once you make the decision about printer or hand written tags for your wine bottles, there’s still the decision to take wine collecting to the next level and incorporate a bar code system.

Many people opt to still use paper catalog record keeping systems to track additions and removals to or from their wine collection, but if you’re willing to try bar coding your bottles, the results can be well worth the switch.

You can purchase an electronic bar code reader that will plug and play in your computer’s USB port for around $125 USD. These barcode scanners come with software that allows you to choose between creating your own barcode tags or recognizing the bar code that comes with the wine originally.

When you use a barcode scanner and track your wine collection electronically, it becomes quite an automatic process to simply scan each bottle as it goes into or comes out of the wine cellar. This way you don’t have to get out a wine catalog or other tracking materials, you simply point the scanner at the bottle and pull the trigger.

Some other wine cellar accessories worth considering are a hygrometer and thermometer that can measure and record the level of humidity and heat in your wine cellar. This can be very important to ensure that wines do not age faster than you would like them to.

There are more advanced hygrometers that will connect to your humidity controlling system as well as your heating/cooling system so that you can more fully automate the maintenance of your wine cellar’s levels of humidity and heat.

There are many handy barcode tags that make tagging and tracking bottles into and out of your wine cellar much easier. For example, there are barcode tags that have a space for writing on the tag, which snaps tightly around the wine bottle neck. Then the barcode portion can be tucked behind or left visible.

If you prefer to age wine yourself, and would like to work with larger quantities, there are some nice oak port kegs that would be perfect for large batches of your favorite port wine. These types of kegs come in 2 litre, 4.5 litre and 6 litre sizes.

There are all kinds of customized wine cellar accessories and organizational tool available. One of the best ways to find out more about the best wine resources and wine cellar accessories is to locate some type of wine enthusiast online community.

There are several wine forums and related online communities that you can visit to find out more about the different wine cellars in your area, as well as make some new friends that share similar interests.
